Destination Guide
Turner Falls Park near Davis is built around Oklahoma's tallest prominent waterfall, where Honey Creek drops about 77 feet into a natural swimming pool in the Arbuckle Mountains. The combination of falling water, limestone cliffs and wooded canyon scenery has made the area a recreation destination for generations.
Swimming is a major draw in warm weather, but the park also includes caves, hiking areas, overlooks and the unusual stone structure known as Collings Castle. The rugged terrain gives visitors much more to explore than the waterfall alone.
Crowds can be heavy on summer weekends, and water conditions matter. Slippery rock, changing depth and strong flow after rain require caution. Water shoes are useful around rocky swimming areas.
Turner Falls is more commercial and intensely used than many state parks, but the natural setting remains impressive. Visiting early in the day or outside peak summer periods gives a better sense of the canyon itself. The park works especially well with nearby Chickasaw National Recreation Area and Arbuckle Mountain attractions.
Things to Know
No glass containers allowed in the park. The terrain is rocky and uneven — wear sturdy shoes. Cell service is limited in the canyon.
Practical Tips
Arrive before 9 AM on summer weekends. The park fills up and closes entry when full. Bring water shoes for the rocky swimming area. Pack sunscreen and plenty of water.
