Destination Guide
Tucker Tower is one of the signature landmarks of Lake Murray State Park. The stone structure was begun during the 1930s as part of New Deal-era development and rises dramatically above the lake from a rocky point.
Its architecture reflects the rustic style favored by the Civilian Conservation Corps and Works Progress Administration, using local stone and forms intended to blend into the landscape. Although plans and uses changed over time, the tower became a scenic overlook and interpretive center associated with the park's natural history.
The location is as important as the building. From the tower area, visitors can see the clear blue-green water and wooded shoreline that distinguish Lake Murray from many other Oklahoma reservoirs. Exhibits and nearby trails add context about geology, wildlife and park development. Tucker Tower is one of the best places in the state to see how 1930s public-works programs combined recreation, architecture and landscape design into a lasting state-park identity.
