Destination Guide
The Quanah Parker Star House near Cache is one of Oklahoma's most important surviving buildings connected with Comanche leader Quanah Parker. Built after the reservation era began, the house became Parker's home at a time when he was navigating dramatic political, economic and cultural change.
The large frame house is known for the painted stars on its roof and for its association with Parker's extended family and many visitors. Quanah, the son of Comanche chief Peta Nocona and Cynthia Ann Parker, became a major leader during the transition from free-ranging Plains life to reservation conditions. He worked with federal officials, cattlemen and business leaders while continuing to advocate for Comanche interests.
The house is historically significant but has faced preservation challenges, and public access can vary. Even from the outside, its scale and distinctive appearance make it a powerful artifact. The building is especially meaningful when visited with the Comanche National Museum and Fort Sill, where other chapters of Quanah Parker's life and the history of the Comanche people can be explored in greater depth.
