Destination Guide

Science Museum Oklahoma is a large hands-on science center in Oklahoma City's Adventure District. Its exhibits cover physics, space, engineering, aviation, natural science, weather, anatomy and experimentation through interactive displays designed for both children and adults. The museum's scale is one of its strengths. Visitors can move from large aircraft and space-related exhibits to live demonstrations, optical illusions, mechanical experiments and creative play areas. The planetarium and rotating programs add depth for families who want more than open-floor exploration. Unlike a traditional artifact-focused museum, much of the value comes from doing: pushing, building, testing, watching and asking why something behaves the way it does. That makes it especially effective for school-age children, although adults with an interest in science and engineering can spend several hours as well. Because the museum sits beside the Oklahoma City Zoo, it is easy to pair the two, but trying to do both thoroughly in a short window can feel rushed. Science Museum Oklahoma is best treated as a half-day attraction on its own.

OkieX Recommendation

There's so much to do. Great for kids, but the parents will enjoy the exhibits as well. Make sure to visit the planetarium! It's a great show and the guides are amazing hosts!

What We Liked

One of the best interactive science museums in the country. The scale is impressive and almost every exhibit is hands-on. The air and space collection rivals standalone aviation museums. Kids and adults alike are engaged for hours. Excellent value for the admission price. A rainy-day must-do in OKC.

Things to Know

Peak crowds during the midday and when the weather is unfavorable outside.

Practical Tips

Tickets are $22.95 for adults, $17.95 for kids (3-12), and include all exhibits plus one planetarium show. Plan 3-4 hours minimum — there's that much to do. Arrive when it opens to avoid afternoon crowds. The Aviation and Space exhibits are exceptional. The planetarium shows sell out — grab your timed ticket at the box office first. Cafe Pavlov serves food on-site. Located in the OKC Adventure District near the Zoo and National Cowboy Museum — easy to combine visits. Free parking.
