Destination Guide

Lake Texoma State Park provides access to one of the largest reservoirs in the southern Plains, straddling the Oklahoma-Texas border. The lake is nationally known for striped bass fishing and supports extensive boating, camping and shoreline recreation. Open water can feel almost inland-sea-like in scale, especially when wind produces substantial waves. Numerous coves, islands and marina areas create very different experiences across the reservoir. The Oklahoma side of the lake offers broad views and convenient access for anglers and boaters. Seasonal water levels, weather and wind can strongly affect conditions, so planning is important for small craft. Lake Texoma's size distinguishes it from most Oklahoma reservoirs. Visitors can spend several days exploring without seeing the entire lake, and nearby communities provide restaurants and services. The state park is best for travelers whose primary interests are boating, fishing and large-water scenery rather than hiking-focused wilderness.

Practical Tips

Lake Texoma is one of the best striper fisheries in the country. The lake is massive — 89,000 acres — so plan which area to explore.
