Destination Guide

Lake Murray State Park near Ardmore is Oklahoma's largest state park and one of its most complete recreation destinations. The clear blue-green lake is surrounded by wooded shoreline and rolling hills, with extensive facilities for boating, fishing, swimming, camping and lodging. Tucker Tower is the park's best-known landmark, rising above the lake as a New Deal-era stone structure. Historic cabins and other park features also reflect the major role of the Civilian Conservation Corps and Works Progress Administration in developing the area during the 1930s. Because the park is large, different sections have distinct personalities, from busy marina areas to quieter coves and trails. The lodge and cabins make it suitable for longer stays, while day visitors can still find beaches, overlooks and short hikes. Lake Murray's combination of unusually clear water, historic architecture and extensive facilities sets it apart from many reservoir parks. It is less a single attraction than a broad recreation landscape that can support several days of exploration.

Practical Tips

Tucker Tower offers panoramic views and a small nature museum. The lake is spring-fed and remarkably clear. This park has something for everyone — hiking, biking, water sports, and golf.
