Destination Guide

Lake Eufaula State Park provides access to one of Oklahoma's largest reservoirs from a wooded peninsula near Checotah. The park is built around boating, fishing, camping and family recreation, with broad lake views and numerous shoreline areas. Lake Eufaula's enormous size means visitors can experience everything from quiet coves to wide open water. Fishing is especially popular, with bass, crappie and catfish among the major species. The park also includes trails and natural areas where wildlife can be seen away from the busiest campsites. Seasonal water levels and wind can strongly affect shoreline conditions and boating. Its central-eastern location makes Lake Eufaula one of the more accessible large-lake destinations in Oklahoma. Nearby Honey Springs Battlefield and historic towns add options for travelers who want more than water recreation. The state park works well for families because it offers a broad range of activities without requiring a remote drive.

Practical Tips

Lake Eufaula is known as the 'Bass Capital of the World.' The lake is enormous — pick a marina and explore from there.
