Destination Guide

Greenleaf State Park near Braggs is one of Oklahoma's older state parks and has a strong Civilian Conservation Corps legacy. The park surrounds Greenleaf Lake, where wooded hills create a quiet setting for camping, fishing and hiking. Historic stone cabins, trails and other CCC-era features give the park a distinctive 1930s character. The lake itself is relatively compact, making it feel more intimate than Oklahoma's largest reservoirs. Greenleaf is particularly well known for hiking and family camping. The trail system passes through forest and along water, while fishing and paddling provide slower-paced alternatives. The park's location near Fort Gibson and Muskogee makes it easy to combine natural recreation with military and Native history. Visitors interested in New Deal architecture should pay attention to the older cabins and stonework rather than focusing only on the lake. Greenleaf's appeal comes from the combination of historic park design and a peaceful eastern Oklahoma landscape.

Practical Tips

The natural swimming pool is fed by a spring and great for kids. The CCC-built cabins are historic and charming.
